How to use

  1. Choose "CGPA to percentage" or "Percentage to CGPA".
  2. Enter your CGPA (up to 10) or your percentage.
  3. Choose the formula: CBSE (× 9.5), simple × 10, VTU older schemes, or your own multiplier.
  4. Read the result and the calculation below it.

Formula

CBSE: percentage = CGPA × 9.5, so CGPA = percentage ÷ 9.5. Simple method: percentage = CGPA × 10. VTU older schemes: percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. Example: a CGPA of 8.2 in CBSE is 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%.

Tips and common uses

CBSE Class 10 grade points

CBSE usually gives these grade points: A1 (91–100) = 10, A2 (81–90) = 9, B1 (71–80) = 8, B2 (61–70) = 7, C1 (51–60) = 6, C2 (41–50) = 5 and D (33–40) = 4. The CGPA is generally worked out from the five main subjects. Check your result sheet for the exact rule of your year.

Percentage needed on forms

Many admission and job forms ask for a percentage even when your board gives a CGPA. Use the formula the form or your institution names. If none is named, CBSE students normally use 9.5 and university students often use 10.

Keep proof of the conversion

If a form asks for a percentage, attach your marks sheet. For important cases, ask your board or university for an equivalence certificate, because an online estimate is not an official document.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert CBSE CGPA to percentage?

Multiply your CGPA by 9.5. For example 9.2 × 9.5 = 87.4%. This is the method generally followed for CBSE Class 10.

How do I convert percentage to CGPA?

For CBSE, divide the percentage by 9.5. For example 85% ÷ 9.5 = 8.95 CGPA.

Is the 9.5 multiplier official?

It is the widely used CBSE method, but it is a convention for estimating a percentage. Colleges, employers and universities may ask for their own method or for the marks sheet, so check the form you are filling.

Which formula should I use for my university?

Universities differ. Many use CGPA × 10, a few use their own formula (for example VTU used (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 in older schemes). The safest answer is the percentage equivalence printed on your marks card or an equivalence certificate from your university.

Is this result an official percentage?

No. It is an estimate. For admissions, jobs or visas where the exact percentage matters, ask your board or university for an official conversion certificate.
